The Center for Molecular Biology (ZMB) was founded in 1992, centralizing all groups of the University of Vienna working in the field of molecular biology. To promote collaborations with the life sciences departments of the Medical University of Vienna, the Max Perutz Labs were founded in 2005.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will complement/complete the research team around Verena Jantsch. You will work on meiotic recombination in Caenorhabditis elegans. The group is based at Max Perutz Labs on the Vienna Biocenter Campus.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which
means:

  • Contribution to your research project with the topic meiotic recombination in C. elegans.
  • Contribution to developing assays for in vivo crosslinking mass spectrometry analysis.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations.
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Involvement in the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
  • Supervision of BSc and MSc students.

This is part of your personality:

  • University degree in Biology, Molecular Genetics or related fields.
  • Successful VBC PhD program Selection or similar international PhD Selection required.
  • Practical experience in handling the model organism C. elegans and performing ChIP experiments
  • In-depth knowledge of meiotic resolvases.
  • Experience in genetics and biochemistry.
  • Experience with basic bioinformatics tools.
  • Training in Mathematics.
  • High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing.
  • Computer literacy (MS-Office; Imaging Software).
  • Basic experience in academic writing.
  • Didactic competences / experience with e-learning.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level).
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures.

Employment duration: The employment duration is limited to 1 year.
Fair salary: Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc).
The basic salary of EUR 3277,30 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience.
